Nearly There!

We will be ready

Preparations are well on track to stage an excellent Tournament. The foundations are being laid for a Tournament we can all be proud of. We have made much progress over the past year at all levels of Tournament delivery:

  • All the stadia upgrade projects will be complete this year.
  • The construction of the Otago Stadium is on track for completion in July next year.
  • Confirmed team bases and logistics.
  • Tested a variety of match day processes.
  • Launched a drive to recruit 5000 volunteers to join our team of helpers.
  • Ticket sales are on track with 500,000 sold in phase 1.
  • Regions across New Zealand are planning how to welcome teams and supporters and celebrate this event through unique Fan Zones.

Ticketing - You gotta be there

There will be many ways to enjoy Rugby World Cup 2011, but there is no better place to experience the excitement and fun than by being right there in the stadium.

  • Applications open on Friday September 10 for tickets to all matches except Semi-finals and the Final.
  • Ticket sales are on track with 500,000 sold in phase 1.
  • The level of interest from international fans has been reassuring.
  • Some 20,000 fans living overseas in 85 countries have bought team and venue pool packs during the first phase.
  • Furthermore, tens of thousands of additional international fans have signed up for Official Travel and Hospitality Packages.
  • We want to make sure visitors to New Zealand stay long, leave with great memories and feel they have had a wonderful value-for-money experience.

Accommodation

  • Our message to overseas fans is that you will find a bed, you will be looked after and you will be charged a fair price, so buy your tickets with confidence.
  • We are working to make it as easy as possible for overseas visitors to find the information they need to plan their trip. There will be a dedicated online facility to help travelers find accommodation websites and book easily. (www.newzealand.com/rugbyaccommodation)

A Stadium of Four Million

  • The Stadium of Four Million is coming alive across New Zealand as regions, communities and organisations embrace the Tournament and the opportunity to showcase New Zealand to the world.
  • We will only stage an excellent Tournament if this Stadium of Four Million fans becomes a Stadium of Four Million great hosts.
  • We urge more Kiwis to get behind the Tournament. Registrations for our team of volunteers close on September 24. Volunteering is a great way to share in the excitement and fun of RWC 2011. (www.rugbyworldcup.com/volunteer)
  • There are many other ways Kiwis can experience RWC 2011 – from Fan Zones through to the nationwide Festival. We all need to play a part to make this a special Tournament that will linger long in all our memories.

Festival

  • New Zealand will celebrate its role as host of one of the world’s greatest sports events by staging the biggest nationwide festival the country has ever seen. It will run from 9 September - 23 October, and will complement the match and team hosting schedule for RWC 2011.
  • The Festival will include hundreds of events and activities all over the country which showcase New Zealand’s arts, food and wine, heritage, culture, entertainment, industries and business, experiences and lifestyle.
  • There’ll be plenty of time between games so we want to encourage people to stay longer, and take the long way around from one match to the next so they can really see the country and meet the people.
  • The festival will enrich the experience and extend the travels of the 85,000 international visitors we’re expecting, but it’s just as much for New Zealanders to celebrate, and find out more about, our own country.
